Met Monday - Plain to Pretty Planters
Jun 8, 2009

I love participating in Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Make sure you visit to see other great transformations!
Here's my metamorphosis from last week:
I don't have a before picture, but I purchased terracotta posts from WalMart.
I used my favorite trigger spray paint, Universal Hammered Metal in Hammer Brown that I used on our herb garden urn.
(Sneak peak of flower/window box project too!)
I then ordered vinyl house number from etsy seller, VinylVineyard and applied 1 to each pot. After that I added a coat of satin finish lacquer.
And here is my completed project. Our house sits back from the road and is surrounded by bushes with the house numbers only displayed on the mailbox. So, this is our way of helping first time visitors find our home!
*Another sneak peek at the window boxes. Installation pending concrete patio. Stay tuned for the reveal! :)
Update: The concrete bench along with the concrete urns and a cast iron birdbath were treasures (hidden in overgrowth that we couldn't even see until we cleared it out) came with our home.I was clapping and shouting "Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!" when Russ was moving it. Thankfully it's 3 pieces but,
Lesson for the day: When husband is lifting a very heavy and awkward stone bench, do NOT make him laugh unless he is wearing steel-toe boots.

OMG - that is AMAZING! I love that idea of putting the numbers on the pots :):) I may just have to steal it, lol.
GREAT job as always!

I just may have to steal this idea, but we have a lot of numbers (5).. so what would you suggest? Would 5 be to many?
June 8, 2009 10:25 AM
Savannah...maybe you could do numbers on a long planter...like one of the window boxes? Or I think doing 5 individual pots would work too...maybe just stagger 5 smaller ones instead of the large ones I used?
Make sure both of you show me what you do! :) I can't wait to see!

What a clever way to show your house numbers -- and they can be seen from the street! Can't wait to see the planters installed! I envy your WM selection of pots -- ours is pathetic and mostly plastic!

I think I am going to steel this idea. It is too cute and easy. The house numbers at my home are not easily seen from the street. Love it. I will give you credit when I get around to this project. :)

I love it! And how fabulous to find that concrete bench, the urns & a birdbath. I would have been dancing the "happy dance". I had to laugh at your comment about your husband moving the heavy item. Sorry! I'm sure it wasn't funny if he dropped it on his toes. But the thought makes me laugh.

That is such a great idea! Love your ideas as always! Thanks for the link for the vinyl numbers... I've been looking for some in older-looking type faces, and haven't had any luck! Thanks!

Maybe I'll have to make some for my MIL instead.

What a fantastic idea! I love it! And I love that you "found" that great bench. Your story about it was hysterical, but I'm sure your husband didn't think so! laurie
