And #3...My most embarrassing moment. Here:

I'd really appreciate your vote daily until 12/4. I'm a finalist in the True Value DIY Drama contest. Imagine what $5000 and profession advice could do in a teeny master bathroom! I'd love to share the transformation with you. :)

Thanks everyone! I hope to see you at my other blog and hopefully when things calm down - I'll be back over here more often!

xoxo,
Roeshel

Fall Decorating at Evangeline's Vine

Oct 13, 2009

I decorated our back patio for fall this past week. I still want to get some more pumpkins, but here's what the back of our house looks like now. All festive and ready for a Fall Festival spotlight. In case you're wondering - we do not have a front door. Yea. Strange, huh? Previous owners built a room over the front entry and it's one of those projects that we'll work on down the road. (Dear HGTV, if reading this, we'd be an ideal candidate for Curb Appeal! Call me! lol Darn that TruValue for not considering my home FULL of DIY projects too!) Anyway...that's why you won't see my front entry. I have window and a brick chimney facing the road. Welcoming, isn't it? Some day. ANYWAY - This is where we enter the house. I hope to do a little decorating for Halloween in the barn this week and finish making the grape arbor a little festive.

I decorated my window boxes with things from the yard. Birch bark, grapes, leaves, pinecones and silver dollar plants. Since it's a short time between now and Christmas...I wanted an inexpensive option. I love how they turned out and the best part - FREE decor!

Mini metamorphosis. These guys before:
Now after a coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint:

In my house # pots (tutorial here), I replaced my pansies with pumpkins (painted with simple metallic stripes). I grabbed some sunflowers and mini pumpkins today today.

I also gathered up some branches from the yard (we lost a couple of branches due to storms) to create swags over the French doors (held in place with s-hooks). My wreaths are from last year.

Mr. DIY's herb garden received a little autumn magic with a clean up, cabbage, teeny pumpkins, a lantern and some acorns.

Remember the nibbled pinecones? I added them to my Juniper.

Along with some acorn-filler (from the yard).

Look at my yard! I'm not kidding when I say the squirrels are bombing! I actually almost landed flat on my back today. It's like walking on marbles.
I painted fall leaves on my doormats. Because the one I found online is out-of-stock and was probably more than I wanted to spend anyway. I like this one:
But I bought this one. I should have left it alone. Nice, huh? But it's not my style. It's my Before photo:

Now: (This could work with an old door mat too). Head over to The DIY Show Off for a tutorial.

Pretty for a low budget. :)

And here is some inside decorating... (Click here for more details, links to tutorials)

Friday Randomness

Sep 25, 2009

I consider Friday to be my day off because I'm a procrastinator and work isn't due until Monday and it's soooo pretty outside. I can't resist starting my weekend today.

Just some random things today... I love this man. Here he is on his way to the office this morning, enjoying the soon-to-end nice weather.
Our grapevines are full and ripe. I picked some grapes today! I hope to take some pictures our grape arbor area and seating soon. It's not completely done. It still needs some landscaping but for now...it's a relaxing place to sit and chat.

And who do you suppose was munching on our pinecones? A squirrel? A chipmunk? A monster? They obviously don't like the top. I don't mind...look how pretty they are for decorating!
If you missed the Home Accent DIY Show & Tell party yesterday - head over and check it out. Lots of fun links to inspire you to create something for your home.

Update on the dream house. We did schedule to see it. Beautiful wood work, beautiful cork floors, so much space, balconies in each bedroom, 2 sunrooms, pretty tile, 6 bedrooms, I lost count of bathrooms, 2 staircases and the property is awesome with all of it's outbuildings. But (and it's a big but) ... it's a money pit. It would take a lot of money on hand to update and repair. :( So...I'm very happy we saw it and I'm not always sitting here wondering about it. It helped me to love my home even more and confirm that I'm happy right where I am.

I told you it was a random post! I'm off to sew and start the weekend! Have a great one!

Daydreaming....

Sep 22, 2009

Wouldn't this make the most beautiful bed & breakfast, party/meeting/event location, gift boutique? Imagine a pumpkin patch on the property with hayrides in the fall. Birthday parties and bridal showers, weddings and company Christmas parties... This property is a bank owned foreclosure in my area and I would love to get my hands on it. I'd be in DIY home renovation and interior decorating heaven. Imagine the blogging possiblities and before & afters. lol

I've always wanted to be an event planner and boutique owner. The location is ideal. The price is right. If only there weren't so many obstacles, red tape and having no idea where to start keeping confidence low and reality status to daydreaming. Still, what a beautiful daydream it is. Don't you think?

This historic brick house was built in 1928 and restored in 2000. There are five acres with a large barn, carriage house, machinery shed, chicken pen and smokehouse. A red and white brick driveway loops in front of the house and connects all the buildings together. Each of the four bedrooms have a different species of wood door and each open to an outside balcony.
I think I'll go peek in the windows today. Scheduling an appointment to see it doesn't hurt, right? You can see me living here, can't you? Hosting blog parties. Wouldn't that be fun? Bring on the investors, grants, extreme home makeover team, advisors and winning lottery ticket! You're invited. Paint brushes and wallpaper scrapers for everyone! lol

I love that snow scene, don't you? All bundled up in my Uggs and building a snowman, decorating the exterior to look like a Christmas card.
Head over to Whooga Boots to enter a giveaway for your own pair of Ugg boots so you can join me! I'll make the hot cocoa!

Tablescape Thursday & Updates

Sep 16, 2009

Hurray! I haven't done a tablescape in quite a while so I'm excited to participate in Susan's "Tablescape Thursday" over at Between Naps on the Porch.

Lots of pretty tablescapes - make sure you check them out!

Here is my dining room all ready for fall. We rarely use the dining room, so this is mostly for decor purposes, but if guests are coming...I'm all set to entertain (after loading the dishwasher beforehand).

I'm sharing my entryway tablescape too!
I love crystal and candles and I made these craft pumpkins to look-like mercury glass.
Update for those who read my blog regularly - thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and comforting words. My dad is back home where he has a hospital bed set up in front of his big screen tv with his remote control. He is receiving hospice care now and his medications are better regulated. I called him yesterday and he talked my ear off for about an hour with his usual good humor. No coughing spells. No shortness of breath. It was wonderful to get to spend some time with him, even if by phone. Again, your prayers mean so much to me. Thank you!

I'm also hosting a Pet Parade over at The DIY Show Off!
Pop over to see the cute pets!

Don't forget to visit Between Naps on the Porch too!

Prayer Request

Sep 11, 2009

See this guy in the middle with his arm around me? He's my dad. He's 1000 mi. away. Please say a prayer for him. He's not doing well and I knew when we found out two years ago that my time with him would be limited but I'm still not prepared. I don't want him to suffer, but I'm not ready to say good-bye.
